Labour and Birth Hospital Bag Essentials For Eco-Conscious Mothers

This post was planned to be published on my 40th week of pregnancy but as our little bundle of joy decided to show up at 39+5. I have since been enjoying the adjustment to life as a family of 4 that I admittedly forgot about this informative post that has been sitting in my drafts section. This list is designed to help Eco-conscious mother’s to be discover green, Eco and organic brands and products they might not have been aware of.

Mum Essentials

Kicking off the list with Mum Essentials you’d probably want to pack a Green and Eco Overnight shower bag containing items such as Shampoo, Conditioner, Hairbrush, Toothpaste and Toothbrush.

You might also want to pack Shower Gel, Body Lotion and makeup as you never know if you, the baby or both need to stay overnight.

Nursing Essentials

For those intending to breastfeed their new additions, you will need to ensure you have at least two nursing bras to hand.

There is an array of different brands to choose from such as the ever reliable and trusted **Bravado Yoga Nursing Bra.

Or my recent investment of the stunning yet comfortable and practical Mumba Bra with a hidden baby sensory panel for discreet feeding which I absolutely adore!

Breast milk can take a few days to fully come in but if you happen to be fortunate like I whose liquid gold came in droves hours after the birth of both of my children, you will probably want to ensure that you have a fair few breast pads to hand.

There are two different types currently available, Reusable Breast Pads that come in the form of organic bamboo, cotton and silk and **Organyc Eco Disposable Breast Pads made with 100% organic cotton.

If you are struggling to produce enough breast milk then give your supply a boost with these super delicious and very filling Lactation Cookies via **Boobbix is just what you need.

For those wanting to express, ensure to pack a breast pump. Weather you decide to use a manual pump or an electrical, there are an array of different brands to choose from.

Hygiene Essentials

After giving birth to your precious little(s) you will experience post partum bleeding. This is very normal and is like having a period except it is much heavier. It can last for weeks or even months like I experienced the 1st time around.

Reusable Maternity Pads like **Bloom & Nora are fairly new to the market but does, in my experience do a fabulous job of keeping one comfortable and dry and are super easy to clean.

If the idea of carrying around reusable maternity pads put you off then there are Eco Disposable options such as **Organyc Maternity Pads.

Due to the heavy bleeding post birth I am sure you will all agree that you wouldn’t want to ruin your own underwear. This is where Disposable Knickers come into play. These are purse friendly and can be found in shops like Boots.

Baby Essentials

From baby’s going home outfit to nappies and Wipes in abundance. Sleepsuits and vests your new arrival will probably need a bag of their own. Below we explore some of these items in greater detail…

Resusable and Eco Disposable Nappies

If you are keen to use Eco friendly nappies the moment your little bundle arrives into this words, Reusable Nappies such as **Tots Bots Teeny Fit Star and**Close Pop-in Newborn Nappies come highly recommended.

Should you wish to wait until you’ve got yourself into some sort of routine and wait a few weeks or months to begin your cloth nappy journey then Eco Disposable Nappies will be a great alternative to regular single use disposable nappies.

Brands such as Kit and Kin and Naty are both great Eco friendly options should you prefer a disposable option.

Reusable and Disposable Wipes

Baby Wipes, an essential in any baby changing bag. But with sooo much choice in our supermarket aisles which brands are more Eco-conscious ?

Brands like **Aqua Wipes contain over 99% Purified Water and no hidden plastics so you can be rest assured they will be suitable from birth.

Another major plus with these wipes is that they are 100% biodegradable so you’ll be helping the planet we live on as well while you care and nurture you child.
