A Poem About Racism Against Black People – The World We Live In

The Words in this super heartfelt, emotional poem were written by me at the time of George Floyd’s murder as an outlet for the immense pain I feel regarding the constant police brutality  and racism our people of Caribbean and African decent face on a daily basis. The World We Live In

My heartbeats, my offspring, my sole purpose for living.

The world as we currently know it isn’t a nice place to live in👎🏽

The injustices faced daily because of colour of our skin,

To have this conversation with you both one day rocks the depths my soul within💔

Denied knowing our ancestral roots for our history was erased,

Without acknowledgement via reporations, instead they’ve kept us mentally enslaved⛓️⠀

Everyday we face oppression, for we cannot speak our truth!

They’ll call us angry and aggressive, we are definitely misunderstood.🙄🤔

I could go on for hours as there is so much more to say.

The tears are flowing thick and fast as I gently wipe them away. 😭😢😭

But for now my beautiful children Little Eco and Little Fleur, enjoy childhood in its most innocent form,

Before you’re exposed to the many barriers us black and brown people face and the levels of racism that can occur. 💔😳💔
