Queen of Green Pre Workout Superfood Smoothie Bowl – Inspired By Plant Based Pixie

FORGET smoothies, it’s all about smoothie bowls for the foreseeable future! Today was my first attempt at making one after drooling over fellow #healthblogger Plant Based Pixie’s smoothie bowl creations on Instagram for at least a solid week. In need of an energy boost ahead of a tough, sweat fuelled HIIT  session at home, I skipped into my kitchen to see what I could possibly whip up. This one I named The Queen of Green Pre Workout Superfood Smoothie Bowl.

Serving Size: 1

Ingredients

For the smoothie:

1 x large frozen banana

50 ml coconut water (I used cocofina)

10 g (1 teaspoon) of Organic Chorella (I used Naturya)

10 g (1 teaspoon) of Hemp Protein Powder (I used Naturya)

10 g (1 teaspoon) of Raw Cacao Powder (I used Creative Nature)

For the toppings:

8 x Fresh Raspberry’s

8 x Fresh Blueberry’s

15 g (1.5 teaspoons) of shredded coconut (I used Neal’s Yard Remedies)

20 g (2 teaspoons) of coconut flower nectar *optional* (I used cocofina)

Method

Peel your banana, cut into three sections (this makes for easier blending) and pop in the freezer, preferably for a few hours until it hardens or overnight (which is what I did).

Once the banana pieces are frozen, pop them into your blender and add 50 ml of coconut water just to help it get going. Blend for approx 45 seconds or until the texture is thick and creamy.

Add the teaspoon of Chlorella, Hemp and Cacao Powder and blitz for a further 5 seconds.

Remove the jug from the machine and stir with a wooden spoon. You want the texture to be thick and creamy without any lumps. Chlorella can have a pungent acquired  taste to it so if you want to mask the taste with something a little more palatable, add between 1-2 teaspoons of natural liquid syrup alternative like date syrup, raw honey or coconut nectar like I did and blend again for only 2  secs.

Carefully add the smoothie contents to the jar and once evenly spread, apply fruit toppings of your choice. If your anything like me who is always on the lookout to make everyday meals and snacks interesting then a smoothie bowl is the way forward (thanks again for the inspiration Pixie x)

I purposely picked these ingredients for their antioxidant rich, muscle fuelling and energizing  properties, but such is the versatility of  this smoothie bowl you can get creative to satisfy your own taste buds and preferences.

This won’t be the first time that I make a smoothie bowl, and look forward to experimenting with different flavours and toppings such as hemp hearts, goji berries, bee pollen, flax and chia seeds to name a few
