Erythritol Zero Calorie alternative to Sugar

Erythritol is a sugar alcohol (polyol), just like Maltitol or Xylitol, which are other popular sweeteners.

The big difference between it and other sugar alcohols however is that it is very low in calories and has the least impact on blood sugar.

This is due to the fact that upto 90% is absorbed into the blood and then excreted in the urine.

Take a look at this comparison table.

Erythritol is present in Pears and Grapes in very small quantities so is a naturally occurring substance which the body is already used to, unlike other forms of sweetener.

It is slightly less sweet than sugar at about 70% the sweetness but that is a pretty amazing trade off I’m sure you will agree for the unbelievably small amount of calories.

I have used Erythritol in a home made cheesecake recipe which I am perfecting and the result was amazing, the sweet cheese tasted no different to what you would normally expect from a cheesecake so look out for that recipe over the next few weeks.

You can find it on Ebay at around £10 for 450 grams, not cheap but great for cooking healthy alternatives of your favourite treats.
