We Own The Night 2014 – Nike UK and Elle UK Women’s Only 10k After Dark Run

As you may have gathered by now, I am a huge advocate of events that encourages individuals to keep active regardless of fitness ability, so when the opportunity arose to actively play a part of Nike UK’s We Own The Night Campaign via my own initial enquiry to get involved with this project post the wotn launch, I didn’t need to be asked twice! (Thank you Sam)

I am no stranger at bringing people together to take part in fitness related classes / sessions as some of you may recall I encouraged, empowered and as one team member put it charmed my kickboxing colleagues and a few aclt supports to take part in The Olympic Gold Challenge from mid 2011 to December 31st 2012 all whilst raising awareness and funds for a cause dear to me The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (such goood times).

With my 1st Dan Kickboxing grading fast approaching, I knew I needed a fresh challenge to focus on post 30th March 14 and with that in mind, I couldn’t resist the burning desire to display my leadership skills again by championing this fun, Women’s Only After Dark Run that Nike UK and Elle UK have put together!

Why We Own The Night You Ask?

Nike hosted this very event with Elle last year. It was all over my twitter, IG and Facebook TL as of most of my friends and Run Dem Crew Ladies were taking part in it, including the lovely Food and Lycra trio (Laura, Kim and Rachel) but my involvement wasn’t meant to be, for I had other commitments on the actual day of the race.

The thing that stood out for me the most about We Own The Night 10k run was the encouragement to rally as many of your girlfriends, work colleagues and female family members to take part irrespective of your current fitness ability.

For once, the race wasn’t about setting personal bests, who can run the fastest or what time you finish the race, it was the strong, empowering and sincere message of running TOGETHER in unity whilst helping EACH OTHER get around safely and in one piece!

In my humble opinion, this race is absolutely PERFECT for young girls and women who express a keen interest in keeping fit and would like to try something they could never envisage themselves doing.

Having followed this race and build up  to the big night very closely year via social media, it was very clear that this is not the type of race where people are looking at you and judging you because you choose to run walk jog stop start and heavy breath your way throughout the course, oh no.

Nor is there any need to incorrectly think you will be embarrassing yourself by entering because you deem yourself ‘unfit’ and you will stand out for all of the wrong reasons.

Immediately banish these thoughts and take the time out to digest the We Own The Night’s Motto…

I’m about say this this with a firm, assertive and can do attitude…

LADIES…. IT’S TIME TO BREAK THOSE BOUNDREZ”

Intrigued to know more?

Here’s how you can be a part of what is set to be a fun, motivational, sisterly and supportive after dark run around a course set in the grounds of Victoria Park, London, England with live DJ’s and a party atmosphere to look forward to upon completion of the run.

How To Sign Up

If you want to sign up for this event and would like to be apart of a sisterly community that will encourage you throughout your 10k training programme, you can sign up to Nike UK We Own The Night 10K After Dark Run by visiting the official WOTN registration page and log in via your Nike+ Profile (if you train with any of their apps).

Proceed to complete the short registration form and pay the entrance fee of what I think is an affordable and decently priced £28.00 for a race entry (I have paid up to £50 on some 10K races I completed previously).

This also includes a FREE training t-shirt to wear on the night of the race to ensure you look the part.

If you don’t have a Nike+ account, please don’t stress for you have the opportunity to create one and once you have done so, you can then complete the registration for We Own The Night race by clicking on the link mentioned in the above paragraph.

If after you have signed up and are on the lookout to be a part of a team to run with on the night, I warmly welcome you to join my Breakin’ Boundrez team by hash tagging #breakinboundrezwoth14 on social media sites Twitter, Facebook and Instagram so we can support each other throughout our training runs in the lead up to the big night (a special warm welcome to my newest recruits and breakin’ boundrez team members @sashashantelvip and @beifit).

Team Breakin’ Boundrez plan to champion this event by encouraging more young girls and women to sign up which will in turn inspire others females in the participants lives to do the same.

Make it a night to remember by sharing this 10k after dark run with friends, work colleagues, Sisters, your Mother, Grandmother, Aunt’s and Cousins.

I’ve already started and think you should too.

Let’s Gooooo! 🙂
