A Goal is Not Always Meant To Be Reached – 1st Degree Black Belt Grading Postponed Until March 2014.

For those that are followers of my twitter account @thiswomansword , facebook friends and those that are readers of my blog, you would have  known that this morning would have been my 1st degree black exam in my chosen discipline, Kickboxing . On Friday afternoon, I suffered a little setback which left me no choice but to pull out at the eleventh hour and postpone by exam until March 2014. The funny thing is, I am surprisingly OK with this!

I know had I had made that trip up to Birmingham yesterday, I would have given everything I had both physically and mentally to ensure that I passed my assessment, and without going into detail, I couldn’t justify putting my boyfriend and I in a financial situation in order to grade.

I wholeheartedly believe that everything happens for a reason and see this minor setback  as an opportunity to further perfect my craft. I have another six months until the next black belt grading please god, and will use this time to keep my foot firmly on the gas during my training regime and crank up the levels in order to reach optimal fitness *beastmode tun up!*for I feel I haven’t reached this level yet and know I have waaay more to give!

As part of my preparation for March 14, I will also re-introduce Paul Zaichik’s Split Specific Exercises / Strength Conditioning back into the mix, a method that I attempted to follow but found it hard to incorporate as part of my daily regime due to work commitments. The Elastic Steel Method is pretty hard core, which will see me set aside 2 hours every 48 hours solely for split specific stretches, but know this will greatly help with my overall kicking ability and flexibility.

My goal is still in sight and one which WILL be achieved, it  has simply been moved to a later date in the future please god. We all suffer from setbacks in life, but it is how we choose to deal with them that matters. We can choose to feel sorry for ourselves or simply dust ourselves off a create a positive from such situations. I choose the latter!

As a reflect on the training I had put in for today, The legendary Bruce Lee’s quote comes to mind ““A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at”.

Regular posts on my kb training and splits routine will be shared with you right here, so do keep posted on my journey to becoming a 1st degree black belt in kickboxing which will allow me to be promoted from a qualified coach to an instructor running my own classes 🙂

Let’s Goooo!
